Law Practice:
Pedersen began her career with the Kahn, Soares & Conway law firm in 1984, as an office clerk. Upon obtaining her paralegal certificate from the College of the Sequoias, she then became a paralegal with the firm in 1988. She has been a member of the Dooley and Herr firm since 1993. The majority of her law practice currently focuses on public agency employment law. Pedersen advises public employers on employee related issues including the establishment and implementation of policies and guidelines, compliance with the Meyers-Milias Brown Act, negotiating with employee labor organizations on collective bargaining issues including the establishment and recognition of those groups by the agency. Pedersen has extensive experience in the disciplinary process of public employees from oral counseling to termination and the administrative and legal proceedings involved therein. She has provided training seminars to the employer’s managers and supervisors on the disciplinary process, substance use and abuse in the workplace, harassment and discrimination and legal updates. Pedersen advises public employers on the growing need for independent fact finding and investigation of complaints based on a variety of issues. Her litigation experience is of great benefit to employers seeking to avoid litigation in the areas of discrimination, harassment and hostile work environment. Pedersen’s law practice also involves general civil and business litigation, general transactional law and estate planning and probate.
Education:
Kris Pedersen was admitted to the California Bar in 1996. She holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the San Joaquin College of Law in Fresno and an undergraduate degree from Fresno Pacific College.
Professional Associations and Memberships:
Recently, Pedersen was a guest speaker at the Labor & Employment Law Section of the State Bar of California Annual Meeting to provide those in attendance with a case law update tailored to public sector employers.
Pedersen is a member of the Kings County Bar Association, the Tulare County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and California Women in Agriculture
